»Into the Future« EgoSphere

IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE / LIGHT ART PROJECT IN KAUFBEUREN

“Kaufbeuren shines” is the light art project of StadtKultur and takes place every year in November. In 2020 and 2021 it had to be cancelled due to the Corona pandemic, but for 2022 Betty Mü had the honour of filling the project with new life.

The artist sees her Infinity Room “INTO THE FUTURE / Egosphere”, which she already showed in a similar form in Kiel in the spring of 2022, as an invitation to consider our own, but also collective perspectives for our future.

Do I want to have a career or start a family? Do I want to travel the world or work for it? Do I act now or put it off until later? All too quickly we get lost in the maelstrom of possibilities, get lost in the labyrinth of goals, fail because of the multitude of options.

Betty Menu’s Infinity Room leads us through the hall of mirrors of our ego and shows us ways between vision and illusion.

Her video loop is a surreal collage of AI-generated portraits, landscapes and cosmic views. At the centre is the ego, the egocentric self-image that meets the ecosphere with its seemingly limitless dreams and desires. As part of the VideoArt4Future initiative, the installation thus also sets an example for the ecological challenges of our planet.

What remains as a perhaps uncomfortable truth: Life is change – and you change with it. Get in, use your mind and enjoy the wild trip!
